These inductees are nominated by the general public, voted for by The Panel, and finally decided upon by the Lead Panel. Last year’s inductees were Ben Ng of Mish Mash and Kim Choong of Thirst Magazine.

Come 8 December, the 2019 inductees will be announced at The Bar Awards Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2019 party.

The Rising Star
The Rising Star is awarded to the best bartending talent aged 28 years old or younger – in other words, born on or after 1st January 1991. Candidates must have recently joined the hospitality industry, and be working in a Kuala Lumpur establishment that serves alcohol as of the nomination date. Previous winners of this award are not eligible.

Restaurant Bar of the Year presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka
This award aims to crown a restaurant with the most superlative beverage program and bar team – an establishment that provides customers with a great dining as well as beverage experience. To qualify, nominated restaurants must serve food created by a designated culinary team.

Beer Bar of the Year presented by Peroni
Which KL establishment has the most knowledgeable team, an exciting (though not necessarily the largest) beer selection, and provides the best experience when it comes to beer enjoyment? This award celebrates the hard work of those establishments which provide a well-curated beer selection, making beer drinking enjoyable and educational.

Hotel Bar of the Year
Hotel bars are surely an indispensable part of the hospitality experience (at least if you’re a tippler). This award aims to encourage more hotels to develop better bar programs for their guests, in turn creating more opportunities for growth within the local community. To qualify for nomination, the hotel bar must be managed by the hotel and making use of its resources, as opposed to simply renting a space on a hotel property.

Specialist Concept of the Year presented by Restaurant, Pub and Bar Asia
Specialist Concept of the Year recognises an establishment that has crafted a unique, specialised, and focused concept for customers, alongside a well-curated experience. The Bar Awards hopes that this category will encourage the development of new, unique concepts which broaden the mind and enable everyone to experience something a little out of the ordinary in Kuala Lumpur.

Hospitality Ambassador of the Year
This category honours the oft-unsung heroes of the hospitality industry – individuals who go above and beyond in providing the finest hospitality for their guests. This may include chefs, bartenders, waiters, finance or back of house staff, and so on – anyone working in a Kuala Lumpur establishment that serves alcohol.

Hospitality Team of the Year presented by Hendrick’s Gin
It takes a team to build a dream. Hospitality Team of the Year celebrates the hard work of establishments in offering the best hospitality for their guests, be it in welcoming guests, making them feel comfortable, looking after their happiness, and so forth.

Creative Cocktail Bar of the Year presented by Cointreau
Which bars are shaking up the cocktail scene with a solid program of creative concoctions? This award is all about recognising the incredible toil and talent involved in creating truly innovative collections of cocktails.

New Bar of the Year presented by Campari
It’s a tough world out here in F&B, and new kids on the block certainly deserve a toast. New Bar of the Year fetes the greatest bar prodigies which have opened within the last one year, in hopes of spurring the launch of more new, amazing F&B establishments within KL.

Bartender of the Year – Penang
Who’s the best bartender, role model, leader, mentor and all-round good person in Penang? Bartender of the Year celebrates exceptional bartending talent, but not only that – how candidates represent themselves, their colleagues, their workplace and their community outside of work will also be taken into account. Candidates must be working in an establishment in Penang that serves alcohol as of the nomination date.

Bartender of the Year – Kuala Lumpur, presented by Monkey Shoulder
Presented by Monkey Shoulder, this award recognises outstanding bar talents in Kuala Lumpur who also shine as role models, leaders, and mentors for the local bar and beverage community. Candidates must be working in an establishment in Kuala Lumpur that serves alcohol as of the nomination date.
