The Bar Awards Hong Kong 2019 Gets You Cool For The Summer

Summer is officially here, and it’s hot, humid and rainy up north in Hong Kong. Just in time to save the day is the epitome of alcoholic debauchery to get you into the swing of things – Victoria Peak got nothin’ on this. While Bangkok‘s award season is over and done with, the Pearl of the Orient is just getting started with The Bar Awards 2019, and we’re here, as always, to give you the low-down on all four days. See the full festival calendar here.

25 July, Thursday

Avoid the midday heat with Bar Talks from industry experts at 2pm at the Canto-chic Duddell’s. If you’re itching for entrepreneurial inspiration, get exclusive tips and tricks on how to open your first bar, and Tep Bar from Thailand is swooping in to school us on a masterclass of exploring culture and business. And we can’t think of a better person to hold a Masterclass than Indra Kantono, Director of dark horse Jigger & Pony, whose bar rose the ranks to Asia’s top 10 this year. After, reward yourself for a hard day’s work at the Gibson (Singapore) pop-up at 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo for a classy tipple or three.

Get your tickets for Bar Talks here.

Duddell’s is located at Level 3, Shanghai Tang Mansion, 1 Duddell Street, Central, Hong Kong, p. + 852 2525 9191. Panel discussions begin at 2pm. 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo is located at Shop 202, 18 Chater Rd, Central, Hong Kong, p. +852 2537 8859. Drinks start at 6pm.

26 July, Friday

Friday’s festivities begin at 6pm with Coley from Kuala Lumpur at Quinary. If the name rings a bell, it’s because it’s also Kuala Lumpur’s Bar of the Year. If you like drinks with a breath of fresh, local flair, Thailand’s Tep Bar’s pop up will be at Asian fusion restaurant Fang Fang from 7pm. From 8pm onwards, catch Caffe Fernet (SG) at The Wise King, then head down to J. Boroski for a duo pop up by Shavinraj Gopinath and Carson Quinn from Bangkok.

27 July, Saturday

On Saturday, The Bar Awards goes on tour to Macau, with a series of Bar Talks from 3.30pm at the Mandarin Oriental Macau, with boozy good times commencing at 9pm. And what better place than Vida Rica – conveniently located on-site at the hotel – to host some of Asia’s best bars including Coley, Tep Bar, Caffe Fernet, and Tel-Aviv’s Imperial Craft Cocktail Bar? On the same day in Hong Kong, celebrate The Pontiac’s 4th birthday at Pontypalooza at 7pm and drink to a good cause at Tito’s Charity Event, happening at The Thirty Six at 8pm. It’s a long day for industry folks, so you guys get an exclusive nightcap at Blush, starting at midnight.

Vida Rica is located at Mandarin Oriental Macau, Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Macau, p. +853 8805 8918.

28 July, Sunday

The Bar Awards will be taking place at Zuma on the last day of the week – doors open at 7.30pm sharp! Watch the crowning ceremonies as the night evolves into one of Zuma’s signature handrolls, top notch tipples and chaotic conviviality. And if the week hasn’t been alcoholic enough already, don’t miss out on the last hurrah – the 11pm After Party at Employees Only in Hong Kong’s LKF.

Limited tickets for the public are available here at HK$200 per person, so act fast.
